Director and responsible Individual
I set VCare24 up in 2017 as a secure ambulance service and crisis placements for vulnerable young people. VCare, over the years has developed a good working relationship with many trusts, CCG and Local Authorities delivering bespoke care to some of the most vulnerable. We now have a large experienced dedicated transport team working under our CQC registrations ensuring every patient is treated with the dignity they respect in times of crisis. We have 5 Ofsted registered homes for Emotional behavioural Difficulties and one Learning disabilities home. I set up the company because I have a passion for helping people and wanted to give children a place where given the right inspiration, they can build foundations for a better future. I am very proud of the company and how far we have come and the commitment of the staff that have helped it get to where it is today.
Registered Regional Manager
I have worked for VCare since May 2019 after making the decision to move to a company that was offering a more bespoke approach to supporting young people in crisis. I have always worked within child and social care settings and felt that the move would allow me to continue offering support not only to young people and their families, but to become involved in the development and progression of a portfolio of services that could offer inspiration and direction.
I am passionate about ensuring that children and young people’s voices are not only listened too but heard, and that we understand that a young person’s journey can make a direct contribution to the way they can communicate their feelings – communication is not just through spoken words, it can also be shown through emotions as well.
People often ask me why I ‘do this job’? The rewards are beyond belief, but we may not always see them or hear about them until much later. Often when young people move on, it is then that they are able to reflect on their time spent within one of our homes and the opportunities they have been given. To be told that you saved someone’s life is the most amazing thing you can get back from what young people say to us is ‘only a job’. It is a vocation, and I am pleased to be a part of a team that continually places the focus on the child or young person and ensures that their needs are met as individuals.
I have worked with children, young people and their families for ten years, after making a decision to have a complete change in career and follow a path in supporting others. During this time I have worked at both ends of the spectrum, from supporting families to prevent children and young people coming into the care system, to working with young people who have been in care for a number of years and potentially across many placements. This experience has taught me the importance of positive role models, the power of relationships and how one person can make a big difference to the lives of others; we can’t change the world, but what we can do is have the biggest impact possible in the time that is given to us. Upon joining VCare24 in May 2020, I found people with the passion, commitment and resilience required to make a difference to the children and young people in our care. We are still young as a company, but already have a number of success stories in supporting young people through challenging periods, enabling positive transitions on the next part of their journey, which is testament to the caring ethos and refusal to give up that runs through the entire organisation. I am proud of the work we have done to this point and know that we will only get better going forward.
My role at VCare24 ltd is HR Assistant. I began my employment in September 2019, since starting, my role has evolved from general day to day office admin to supporting the HR Manager with the safer recruitment processes and heading social media marketing, ensuring I am creating content that drives audience engagement and promotes the business. The aspect of my role I enjoy the most is conducting interviews. I enjoy working for VCare24 and feel we have a great team; I am looking forward to gaining more valuable experience and progressing within a growing business.
I have had many roles within my nursing career including Practice Nursing, Occupational Health, HM forces, Police Custody and Brain injury rehabilitation. Over the years I have gained valuable knowledge and experience which enables me to provide holistic care and support to both the young people and staff within VCare24.
I feel very privileged to be able to work closely with the young people in our care, building relationships, promoting good health and well-being, and liaising with other healthcare professionals to ensure the best health outcomes are achieved.
As well as caring for the young people, I provide assistance and advice to staff within the company, helping to ensure their emotional and physical well-being are looked after.
I started working for Vcare24 in November 2019 where I worked causal hours for the Secure Transport team. I have recently joined Vcare24 full time in December 2020 to work under our Transport manager Bob Thomson. In my short but memorable time working within Vcare24 I have seen the business flourish and develop, and their continuous improvement helped me make the decision to move here full time. There is no typical day at Vcare24, each day brings new challenges which I relish. My main role is helping with the day to day running of the Transport Team behind the scenes making sure our extensive and growing fleet of vehicles are in good order and operating with our financial team to ensure audits are completed. The passion and drive I have seen throughout the company ranging from the managers/directors to the support workers in our team is simply outstanding and the job satisfaction we all gain from working for vcare24 is something you cannot buy.
Learning Disabilities Registered Manager
My background is as a youth worker in which I hold a level 5 qualification. I spent 23 years working for Hull city council in various children and young people’s services roles. I have worked in residential schools, managed a young people’s crisis walk in service and was a manager in a leaving care team for 15 years. I have worked as a youth work manager in North Yorkshire and for YMCA managing a mental health project in NE Lincolnshire. I started working for Vcare24 because I was so impressed by the passion and determination of Vicky to create a company that provides the best possible care for vulnerable children. We may be a small company but were making big strides in the world of childcare and secure transportation services.
I studied at Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management and I am a registered social worker, with my past work history experience being with children and families for 17 years. After starting out in Children’s Homes, I went on to work within Safeguarding and Family Support after qualifying as a social worker, before returning to Children’s Homes, which is where his passion for role modelling and building positive relationships have supported a range of young people to meet their potential. In addition to this I have also got extensive experience working in the field of Adoption, which the home has benefitted from, when working with young people who have experienced adoption breakdown.
Following retirement from the Police I joined Vcare24 as the first dedicated Transport Support Worker in February 2019. Having spent the later part of my career in the Police working with mental health and its relationship with policing I was drawn to a job advert for the role. I had developed a passion for helping those suffering mental illness and had seen from personal experience how those suffering mental health issues were very much treated differently to those suffering more obvious physical health conditions.
From day one working for the company it was clear that the company ethos very much matched my own personal values – We deal mainly with individuals suffering from mental health issues ensuring that they are safely transported with utmost dignity and respect. Unlike many Secure transport companies, we do not move anyone in a cage, this is fundamentally wrong.
Finance and Shift Manager
I began my journey in October 2017, supporting Vicky to set up all aspects of the business and have been really hands on from day one. Since then, I have developed my professional skills and knowledge and now apply these predominantly to my role in the finance department for effective budgeting and monitoring of the accounts. In addition to this I work alongside and support Managers by coordinating the staff team rotas by looking at each individual needs and utilising staff strengths to offer the highest quality care. I have a real passion for Transport Team and take every opportunity to get involved to work as part of a great staff team who each bring their individuality, making it feel less like work and more like an extended family.
I began my employment in May 2018, where my role has developed and grown with the company my responsibilities include supporting the business to deliver employee related processes aligned with employment law and legislation, safer recruitment, staff development and the company purpose, values and vision. In addition to this I also take the lead in compliance with GDPR and the delivering of this aspect of the training and I am the designated complaints officer.
The aspect of my role I enjoy the most is being able to offer learning and development mechanisms to the staff teams and seeing them flourish.
Safeguarding Officer and Training Coordinator
I joined the company in March 2018, after studying for a Degree in Forensic Biology and working in the Agriculture industry for many years. After spending some time volunteering for Samaritans, I decided I wanted to do a full-time job which made me feel like I was giving something back and making a difference, and thankfully Vicky gave me that opportunity.
I have been lucky enough to be part of each department of the business, working in the Homes, on Transport, and in the Head Office. As the Safeguarding Officer for VCare24 I am the main point of contact for all safeguarding concerns within the Homes and Transport, I oversee and liaise with Local Authorities, National Health Services, Local Safeguarding Boards and VCare24’s Management Team ensuring the safety and well-being of the all the staff, children, young people and vulnerable adults.
Alongside my Safeguarding role I coordinate the Training for all our staff and oversee the Health and Safety and Fire Safety of the business making sure staff are kept up to date and are constantly developing professionally and ensuring that not only the Young People and Service Users are kept safe but also my fellow colleagues are too.
